2014 Pelican Island Wildlife Festival

Once more in Riverview Park in Sebastian the Pelican Island Wildlife Festival presents its annual commemoration of the foundation of the National Wildlife Refuge System through an Executive Order of President Theodore Roosevelt on 14 March 1903 and the establishment of the nation’s first National Wildlife Refuge at nearby Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge. Below are some images from the festival starting with the exhibit from the wildlife hospital of melancholy looking birds of prey who, for one reason or another, cannot be released into the wild due to past injuries.
A Red-bellied Woodpecker wonders what all the commotion in about down below in the park.
A Bottlenose Dolphin swims by Riverview Park in the Indian River Lagoon.
The statue of Paul Kroegel, the first warden of Pelican Island, peers across the water toward his old refuge.
