A beautiful early June sunset over the Indian River Lagoon with Sam relaxing out on Bob Bruce and Janice Broda’s dock. In the panorama below that is Sam and Pepper silhouetted at right. To the left is Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge. The lights directly across the water are from the city of Sebastian. A nice evening without too many bugs, which is rare as Florida heads into summer.
Photos of a family of Barred Owls (Strix varia) in a Sebastian, Florida conservation area using a large cavity in a dead palm tree as a nest. The Barred Owl nestlings’ view looks out onto a well-shaded oak and palm hammock making for an idyllic spot to start new life. After a long search of the nearby trees we found one of the parent Barred Owls peacefully dozing on a branch from where it could keep watch on the area […]

This is the mother Bald Eagle keeping an eye on her young from a dead tree nearby the nest. A view of the nest site amidst the scrub. The three Eagle nestlings take a long, careful, look at a visitor to the nest. This does not look like a relative. Mom returns to the nest […]
A gallery of images show a thunderstorm at sunset rolling over the city of Sebastian, Florida, looking westward over the Indian River Lagoon through Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge. A pleasant late afternoon on the beach before heading out to watch the sunset. Cloud to cloud lightning. The storm breaks up shortly after sunset with lights from the city of Sebastian visible on the far shoreline. Note the little spark of lightning visible in the cloud. Thank you to Bob […]
I missed some pretty dramatic sunsets over the last few weeks so when my schedule finally allowed me an opportunity to shoot today’s sunset there were none of the fiery colors everyone has been talking about. Still, it was a pretty sight in this view looking across the Indian River Lagoon and Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge toward Sebastian unseen on the western shore.
Hurricane Arthur threw a few fast moving storms through Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge as it left the area toward sunset on Wednesday as seen in this view looking west toward Sebastian over the Indian River Lagoon.
