Today starts a sporadic new feature that will highlight quotes I find interesting from movies and television all thanks to the magic of Closed Captioning.

Douglas Adams, the author of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, wrote two novels about Dirk Gently and his Holistic Detective Agency that seeks the “interconnectedness of all things” to solve mysteries. Two attempts have been made to turn the idea into a TV series and both failed: on the BBC for four episodes, and on BBC America for two seasons. The failure of the latter show was a big disappointment though not for a lack of quality. Most likely it was just too strange for the average American viewer.
