Citrus Bowl | Vero Beach Senior High School | Florida
The Citrus Bowl, the home of the Vero Beach High School Fighting Indians, seen late on a post-game Friday night. Many years ago, citrus was king in Indian River County. Now, it is more of a distant relative. The onetime importance of this particular fruit lent its name, rather opportune at the time and not without some humor, to the local football stadium. In keeping with the whole ambience, the team should have been called the “Fruit Pickers” or some such, rather than the “Fighting Indians”. Regardless, the place fills up with fans on Friday nights during the high school football season. The flags above the bleachers, by the way, spell out “Vero Beach”.
Who can forget that storied season when Vero became state football champs?
