Clyde Butcher Road Trip

I went on a road trip down to Pembroke Pines near Miami to see an exhibit of Clyde Butcher’s fine art black and white landscape photography, get a signed copy of one of his books, and to hear him give a lecture about his photographs taken at various locations around the United States.

America The Beautiful: The Monumental Landscapes of Clyde Butcher was on display at The Frank Art Center in Pembroke Pines. After a long road trip we arrived about a half hour before the doors opened for the event.

After the book signing, Clyde gave an illustrated talk in the main gallery. Unfortunately, the gallery’s projector acted up all evening making for a frustrating presentation of hearing about many of the images without seeing them.

The talk was jointly given by Niki Butcher, an artist in her own right, who does hand painted photography and is Clyde’s assistant, and by Clyde, who was full of amusing and inspiring stories about his work and life.

A final view of Niki & Clyde.
