Remembering a December 2016 visit to the Pinewood Estate decked out for Christmas 1944.
Pinewood Estate was built in 1932 in Lake Wales, Florida, as a winter retreat for Bethlehem Steel Vice-President Charles Austin Buck before being acquired by Bok Tower Gardens and opened to the public in 1970. The mansion is decorated for Christmas every year with a different theme. The theme for Christmas 2016 is Christmas 1944. Reminders of the World War II years are scattered throughout the rooms with the decorations being a little ostentatious as a reflection of the wartime sacrifices.
