Remembering a nice encounter with a Moorhen back in October 2016.
One of my favorite birds, the Common Gallinule (Gallinula galeata), which, as I have stated before, I prefer by its old name, the Common Moorhen. This Moorhen was hiking around some wetlands in Lake County, Florida, and is quite delightful to look at but not as showy as its cousin, the Purple Gallinule. Regardless of what you want to call either bird, they both have a lot of chicken characteristics, especially when once seen en masse looking for a handout from people picnicking in a park.
