Half-Period Zones

Sigh. Someone did donuts in the lawn at the Bear Point Sanctuary along the Indian River Lagoon in St. Lucie County. It is believed to be the location of the last recorded Native American Black Bear hunt on Hutchinson Island. Before the Indian River Lagoon was dredged, polluted, and had its shoreline cemented over with houses and condos large wildlife like bears and panthers would cross the relatively shallow Lagoon to the barrier islands. The white line dividing the image is State Road A1A in this view facing east. The clouds in the distance are out over the Atlantic Ocean with the beach being just beyond the tree line in this narrow point on the barrier island.

  1. Thanks Bob for the history even if it is very sad what we have done.
