Sadly, the Common Loon is mostly quiet when it overwinters in Florida in its nonbreeding plumage as seen here. The Loon’s distinctive spooky utterances commonly ring out in the summer nights in the lakes of the far North during its breeding season. This individual was spending most of its time under the water of the Banana River foraging for fish; seen while waiting for the launch of USSF-8.
