This rather handsome Dragonfly was hanging around near the little pond in the Audubon House landscaping.

It could not settle in the heat of the midday Sun and flittered from perch to perch.

Dragonflies are voracious eaters of flies, mosquitoes and other annoying insects so there presence is a welcome addition to any yard.

A little shade at last!

Interestingly, the Dragonfly larval stage is the longest part of its life and is spent underwater as nymphs that eat practically everything that comes along.
