During the winter it is common for thousands of American Coots to all raft together at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. It is quite the sight to see. During the summer, only a few holdouts remain, like this individual, the rest having migrated away. There were a few other Coots visible in the distance all pulling up underwater plants to eat like this one.
