I can never remember a time when the Moon Garden Chinese-American restaurant was ever open.  To me it was always this abandoned ruin on a deserted stretch of US-1 just south of the Indian River County border in St. Lucie County.  And now even that is gone.  One day the building. the sign, everything was knocked down and carted away.  Nothing but grass remains – and these photographs from long ago.

Without the facade it is just a dumpy square building of concrete blocks and windows.

Given the prominence of “Cocktail Lounge” on the sign it must have been quite a place. And the elaborate neon sign itself must have been like a lighthouse beacon on that dark stretch of road, beckoning travelers to stop.
