The Royal Park Arcade, AKA Parkway Plaza, is one of a number of rare buildings from the past to survive the wrecking ball in Vero Beach. Located between the old historic downtown and the Miracle Mile shopping complex, the Royal Park Arcade was built in 1925-26 in a late 19th & early 20th Century Mediterranean revival architectural style. Today it houses a couple of restaurants and some empty commercial space downstairs, along with apartments upstairs. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. The arched sidewalks seem to have been a feature of early Florida architecture. The shadowed walkways must have been quite a relief from the Florida Sun in pre-air conditioner days.
