The Maher Building, AKA Illinois Hotel, built circa 1900 but burning down in 1919 destroying the department store that resided within.  Rebuilt shortly afterward with the same trademark arches, the building has gone through a number of varying commercial occupants including once housing a coffee shop and used bookstore, which was my favorite.  The building was registered with the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.  This time exposure view with traffic streaking by looks eastward along westbound Route 60 toward 14th Avenue and some more historic downtown Vero Beach buildings.
