Miracle Mile Shopping Cart

A cold front sends dark clouds over an abandoned shopping cart in the Miracle Mile shopping center in Vero Beach.

Apropos of nothing, Vero Beach, like many other cities around the United States, has a Miracle Mile shopping center. In our case, it is the main destination for grocery shoppers from across the Indian River Lagoon, where, for a lot of them, it makes for one of their rare visits to the mainland from their beachside homes. Miracle Mile is also the name of a 1988 atomic apocalypse film where a stray phone call announcing that nuclear bombs will start falling in seventy minutes starts a panic leading to a rather terminally depressing ending in more ways than one. If you are expecting there to be a connection between the film and the shopping center, well, there is not one.
