This video by the Florida Historical Society frames Jack Kerouac’s time in Central Florida around the writers-in-residence program now situated in his old Orlando home. One can only commend the people who devoted the time and energy it took to preserve this nondescript cottage as a rare Florida physical representation of the literary Beat Generation. The beginning of the video get a bit unnerving when it appears they are going to conflate the actual Beat Generation with the media-spawned, commercialized Beatnik phenomenon but the video swerves away to other topics before any real damage is done. You can only say so much in a half hour. Well worth watching. . .
