Sam and I watched a NASA-sponsored Orbital Sciences Corporation Antares rocket lift off from MARS destined for the International Space Station with over 3,000 pounds of supplies loaded aboard a Cygnus spacecraft today at 12:52 p.m. EDT. MARS is the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport at Wallops Island, Virginia, which makes it a long way from Cape Canaveral, but that is the new reality of commercial spaceflight taking rocket launches out of my backyard and spreading them around the country. Time for a spaceflight road trip, I guess. I can do a space age version of Travels with Charley. John Steinbeck might be pleased.
