Mara the cat had an unexpected and intense interest in the still image of yesterday’s post when it was on the computer screen. She must have a strong recognition of snakes, even two-dimensional still images of snakes, from her brief time as a wild outdoor kitten.
A mad dash for the camera and a few shots through the tinted office door window documented one of the occasional visit by the Black Racer snake to the breezeway at Audubon House. Any attempt to open the door to get a clearer shot would have seen the snake race away at lightning speed out of sight into the bushes.
A Loggerhead Shrike atop the old windmill at Treasure Hammock Ranch.
