Excerpts from the historical marker in front of the Hallstrom House located along Old Dixie Highway in the southern part of Indian River County: “In the early 1900s, Swedish immigrant and horticulturalist Axel Hallstrom sought the warm climate of Florida for his wife’s health and moved to this area to grow tropical trees and fruits.
