With very distinctive stripes, a Monarch butterfly larva gorges on milkweed in the final days before forming a chrysalis to begin the metamorphosis into a butterfly. Seen in the butterfly garden at Audubon House at the Oslo Riverfront Conservation Area.
The Paper Wasp nest at Audubon House is coming along nicely with the development of multiple larvae in these images taken over the past week. Photos of two stages of development. The image at left shows an early larval stage with a more developed stage at right. The developing larvae chambers are given large caps under which the young wasps pupate then emerge from as adults.
