A Crested Caracara walks along the roadside at Treasure Hammock Ranch, to investigate some roadkill near a pile of scat. The bird scooped up the roadkill and flew off with it. Like Vultures and Bald Eagles, the Crested Caracara is also a carrion eater. From the Florida Cattle Ranch project.
There was a little competition this morning between a Bald Eagle and a group of Black Vultures over some fresh roadkill. The Vultures were wary of the Eagle but none of them could do anything about the frequent traffic that eventually drove the Eagle away in frustration over not being able to scavenge the carcass in relative peace.
