West of Vero Beach in Indian River County is the Indian River Mall that was built in 1996. Back then the Mall was a thriving destination for commerce with trendy stores, a popular movie theater, and an always busy food court with a variety of fast food choices. In a county with little to do, it was definitely the place to be for many people.
Today the Mall is a victim of changing tastes with few people going there.
The outside of the mall is a large expanse of empty parking lot with two of its anchor stores now closed as seen in these infrared images, though the 24-plex movie theater and a popular restaurant still brings people in.
The inside of the mall struggles on with long stretches of empty store fronts interspersed with the odd business here and there making for a veritable ghost town as seen in the companion post, Color Mall.
