Pelican Island Audubon Society hosted Brian Hester and Barbara Beam, the co-authors of She Talks To Fish, at Audubon House on 15 November 2024 for a reception. The book is a coming-of-age story about a young Black woman who discovers her obsession with fly-fishing that fuels a pilgrimage through uncharted waters in her life. Brian Hester is also an artist and treated the guests to a painting demonstration starting from scratch with a blank canvas to having a completed work – with a fly-fishing theme of course! – in a little over an hour. Using an inexpensive web cam I shot the time lapse video below of his live painting that is featured on the Pelican Island Audubon Society web site.
