Image #240708

The globular cluster M13 located in the constellation of Hercules contains over 100,00 stars packed into close proximity with each other. This tight arrangement sometimes causes stars to collide. The cluster is located about 25,000 light-years from Earth. It was discovered by Charles Messier in 1764 and became the 13th object in his famous astronomical catalog. This view of M13 was taken from the backyard on 7 July 2024.
