Rhabdoderma elegans

The fossilized remains of Rhabdoderma elegans, one of the long line in the evolution and variety of the coelacanth, a fish that has survived from prehistoric times to be rediscovered alive in the deep waters off East Africa in 1938.

This particular fossil on display at the Orlando Science Center was found in Ohio, giving an idea of how widespread these creatures were in prehistoric times.
