The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse, built in 1859-1860, was home to a secret Navy radio unit designated Station J during World War II that used high-frequency direction-finding (HF/DF, “Huff Duff”) gear designed to intercept radio messages from U-boats operating in the Atlantic Ocean.
